Here we have our JRP ¼ INCH PT EGT compression fitting, these fittings will slide onto both our JRP EGT v2 & v3 probes, and allow you to install the sensors into exhausts that have either a ¼ NPT bung, and also ¼ BSP bungs.

The reason we are stocking these little fittings is because some aftermarket exhaust manufacturers decided to use ¼ NPT bungs on their exhausts instead of 1/8 NPT. To be honest we aren’t exactly sure why they decided to use this size instead of 1/8 NPT which is pretty much an industry standard size for EGT sensors, but at the end of the day they did, and customers of ours who have ordered our gauges would go to install their new EGT sensors and find the bung on their exhausts were the wrong size for our sensors.

One aftermarket exhaust company that we know does this using ¼ NPT EGT bungs is Redback, which in Australia is an awfully popular aftermarket exhaust system for Diesel 4x4 owners. We are sure there is a couple of other exhaust manufactures out there that do this, but Redback is the main one we find customers calling us saying our sensors do not fit the bung they have in their exhausts.

So, this is why we are selling these ¼ PT EGT fittings for our probes, so that customers can install our sensors into an exhaust that has a ¼ NPT fitting, but also any exhaust that has a ¼ BSP fitting as well. These little fittings are quite innovative, they are a ¼ PT fitting and what that means is they can be installed in not only ¼ NPT bungs, but they will also be able to be installed into ¼ BSP bungs as well. They are kind of a universal solution that covers both ¼ NPT & 1/4 BSP bungs.

Now some of you might be thinking, well I can just get an adapter to screw into the ¼ NPT bung so that the 1/8 NPT EGT sensor screws into that. And in a perfect world that would be a great solution, but unfortunately this does not work. When using an adapter fitting that screws into the ¼ NPT bung and then allows the 1/8 NPT EGT sensor to screw into it, what happens is the EGT sensor is no longer able to protrude into the exhaust stream far enough, and this leads to inaccurate readings of your EGT’s. So if you have a ¼ NPT bung in your exhaust, don’t want to pop down to the exhaust shop and have a 1/8 NPT bung welded in, this ¼ PT EGT fitting which can be used on both the JRP EGT v2 & v3 sensors is the perfect solution.
