Here we have our JRP 1/8 NPT 7-Bar boost sensors, we have added these sensors to our range for those customers who wish to use the 1/8 NPT port for connecting the sensors instead of the barb fitting sensors that come with all of our boost gauge products. Some customers have particular spots on their manifolds that they want to use a 1/8 NPT instead of the bard for various reasons. One common one we get is someone is running extremely high levels of boost, such as 60psi or higher, which is common on some pretty insane Diesel builds.

While the barb fitting is fine for most people, when running super high boost levels, a barb fitting leaves room for the vac / boost rubber hose line to pop off without being secured. And some customers prefer to have their boost sensor bolted right onto their manifolds because it’s neater for them, and also not having a vac / boost line running off to the sensor can provide a slight improvement in boost sensor response. There are also some Diesel vehicles where they don’t have any access to a vac / boost line that references the intake manifold, and so they need to drill and tap the manifold to install a boost sensor, so these are also perfect for that purpose as well.

So after getting a decent amount of requests over the last year, we have now provided the option for customers wanting to run our gauges, but prefer to use a 1/8 NPT boost sensor instead of the barb to order one of these along with their gauges if they so wish.

These 7-Bar 1/8 NPT boost sensors are also for those who are searching for a quality MAP sensor to connect to an aftermarket ECU or datalogger without breaking the bank. If you are planning on using this 7-Bar MAP sensor on your aftermarket ECU or Datalogger, they are a 3-wire 0-5v sensor, that requires a 5v power source, an earth and the final wire is the signal wire going back to your device of choice. A millivolt calibration chart and the pin arrangement can be found in the product images above.

Now when we say these sensors can be used with an aftermarket ECU, we mean simply for logging purposes, most aftermarket ECU’s come with a MAP sensor on the ECU itself which is used by the ECU to control vital functions such as fuelling and ignition timing. The MAP sensor on an ECU is possibly the most critical component of the ECU when it comes to controlling both fuelling and timing of the engine. These MAP sensors which are built into most ECU’s are accurate right down to 0.001psi in a lot of cases and respond to changes in manifold pressures at blistering speeds. The reason they need to be this accurate & respond at the speed of light is simply because they are the master signal making sure the ECU is doing what it needs to do perfectly. We DO NOT recommend using these sensors for ECU’s that don’t have their own internal MAP sensors, such as ECU’s like Microsquirt for example, or some of the Link ECU’s which don’t have a MAP sensor built in. These sensors while filtered and accurate, they don’t have that extreme resolution required of an ECU for pinpoint fuelling and ignition timing. While we know these sensors could most likely be used for this purpose and still work, their accuracy is more around 0.1PSI, in our opinion just short of what we would be comfortable using on our ECU’s for something as critical as fuelling and ignition. As for them being used with dataloggers, gauges, or secondary MAP sensors on ECU’s for various logging reasons, they are absolutely perfect.

The list of our Gauges that are compatible with this 1/8 NPT 7-Bar Boost sensor is below.

14in1 Multi Gauge

Edge 52mm Diesel 0-60 PSI Boost Gauge

Edge 52mm Dual Boost & EGT Gauge

**WARNING**

If you are after a replacement MAP sensor for our Diesel 0-30PSI Boost Gauge or our 30 INHG to 30PSI Boost Gauge, this will not be compatible. The correct sensor for those gauges is our 3-Bar Boost sensor with either the Barb Fitting or 1/8 NPT fitting depending on your installation. Note for the 30 INHG to 30PSI Boost Gauge, if it was bought before Aug 22 you can use this sensor, or if bought after you need the 3-bar.
