While the vast majority of our customers have the space to install our straight EGT sensors, we from time to time get customers where there just isn’t enough clearance to install the straight sensors, and so they require a 90 degree EGT sensor if wanting to use our gauges for their vehicle. So with that, and while it took us a little time to perfect the design, we now have the JRP EGT v3 sensors in 90 degree as well.
We also think these sensors are going to also be popular with customers that want to install their EGT sensor pre-turbo, so on the exhaust manifold. As a 90 degree sensor is much better suited for this purpose, having a straight EGT sensor sticking out off an exhaust manifold is kind of awkward, so these little sensors are most likely going to be well really well from the pre-turbo crowd. Also the customers & workshops of ours that like to use our EGT sensors with dataloggers, a lot of them like to do individual cylinder monitoring on both Petrol & Diesel vehicles, and again install directly into the exhaust manifold, running between 4 to 8 of these 90 deg sensors is a much cleaner way of going about it.
The JRP EGT v3 sensors have had improvements made to their design in a few important areas, first is we have moved to a 2520 stainless steel probe body and increased the thickness of the probe itself from 3mm to 4mm which will better protect the induction point inside the probe for better durability and longevity. The probe design itself has also been improved, it now tapers down from the top to tip. Just like the v2 EGT sensors the v3 is using multi-core wire, one of the major killers of cheaper EGT sensors supplied with a lot of aftermarket gauges out there is them using single core wire, the JRP EGT v3 probe is using 16 AWG high quality multi core wire from the induction point back to the Deutsch connector. The induction point on the v3’s are shielded to ensure no external grounds can make it into the sensors to cause inaccurate readings from any leaky earths that may be lurking in the vehicle. The response rates of the v3’s has also been improved slightly over our v2’s as well, not that our v2’s are slow to begin with, one of the most common bits of positive feedback we receive on our v2 sensors is how responsive they are, but we have managed to improve on that again with our v3’s. Accuracy is of course paramount, and just like our v2’s the v3’s are incredibly accurate and have been reference tested by our workshop customers to fall within 1% of their dyno EGT setups.
So if you are wanting to run one of our EGT gauge solutions and don’t have the space to use our supplied straight sensors, you now have the option to purchase one of these. We may in the future add them as a product option when ordering, but for now they are going to be sold separately. Or if you are a customer wanting to run the sensor pre-turbo and just don’t have the space for our straight versions, or also a workshop looking for very high quality EGT sensors for individual cylinder monitoring, we have everyone covered.
