With the release of our latest v2.6 models of the JRP 14in1 multi gauge, we have added some features that many customers have been asking for over the years, as we continue to take on customer feedback and build better. And with that, we are proud to introduce one of the addon packs for these latest models which we call Head Guard, and what this addon pack does is, adds a low coolant level alarm & sensor to the systems. That’s right, along with all the other sensors and readouts the 14in1 can bring to one neat little automotive gauge, with this addon pack, you will now be also able to monitor for an engine low coolant situation and sound an alarm if it occurs. We have made sure to add a time delay setting for slushing, it’s going to act exactly like the other engine low coolant alarm systems on the market, but with the convenience of being built into our already comprehensive all-in-one gauge solution. With this head guard addon pack, you will no longer have to worry about a minor or catastrophic loss off coolant happening with your engine without being alerted, our 14in1 gauge will be monitoring in the background coolant levels and if there is ever a minor or major loss of coolant, you will know within seconds and can address it before major engine damage occurs.

Below we run through this addon packs features in more detail, so that our customers know exactly how this pack can benefit them and their engines. We here at JRP are always trying to not only supply quality and reliable solutions to help customers protect their engines, but also offer education around why you might need to monitor for certain situations, as we know if customers do this, it could save them a ton of money in the long run if they are able to detect potential issues early. So, with that, take a read of the information we have prepared below which could indicate if the Head Guard addon pack for the 14in1 system might be for you.
Low Coolant Level Sensor & Alarm
So, as we mentioned above, this Head Guard addon pack for the JRP 14in1 v2.6, it adds a low coolant sensor & alarm to our systems. This little addon packs is going to be welcomed with open arms by the 4x4 community, as when driving offroad, there are plenty of scenarios where damage to the radiator could occur, which if it does, leads to either a slow leak, to a sudden total loss of coolant, and either of these if not caught in time could cause some potentially serious and costly damage to the engine. But this addon isn’t just for the 4WD guys either, if you have a performance petrol street or track car, the same deal applies, if you lose all your coolant, you will be in a world of trouble. The vast majority of vehicles and their factory gauges do not monitor for low coolant levels, and so there is no warning or alarm available to let you know you have lost all your coolant, the only alarm people have is watching steam pour out of the engine bay after the engine has cooked itself, not ideal right. So, even if you have a petrol engine, you could have a simple situation occur where a radiator hose has popped off, that’s enough to get you into a world of trouble really fast, and with this low coolant level sensor & alarm addon pack for the 14in1 gauges, you have peace of mind that we are not only keeping an eye on your other vitals such as water temp, egt, trans temp, boost etc, these systems are also going to alert you within seconds if you have had any kind of loss in coolant levels, be it minor or major, just another reason why the 14in1 systems from JRP are such an amazing all-in-one automotive gauge.
There are solutions on the market which only do low coolant level detection alone, and those range from anywhere from $175 to $250 or more just for this feature alone, they do nothing else. We have managed to integrate this into our 14in1 gauges, and at a cost much lower than buying a standalone solution, because at the end of the day, our gauges are already like a little computer system, the cost for us to implement this didn’t require separate hardware apart from the sensor, cable and some r&d along with a PCB redesign, so we are able to offer this addon pack at an amazing price, saving our customers wallets once again, and giving them peace of mind having one little gauge package handle pretty much everything for them.
JRP 3-Port Radiator Hose Sensor Adapter
We have also designed & engineered our very own radiator hose sensor adapters for this as well, being that most people will be installing water temp along with this low coolant sensor, standard hose adapters only come with 1-port, which is not going to work if you are wanting to install 2-sensors, so we are proud to introduce the JRP 3-port radiator hose sensor adapter, which comes in a range of sizes and sold separately, and we have created a link to their category below. These adapters will allow you to install both the water temp sensor, and low coolant sensor into the one adapter. Sizes available range from 28mm right up to 40mm.
The adapters are something we are incredibly proud of, they have a lovely anodized finish in midnight grey, the CNC machining on them is top notch, the threads have been bored out perfectly, these are just another testament to JRP quality, and allows customers to complete their installation of Head Guard & Head Guard Ultra products with ease and confidence they will not let you down.
JRP 3-Port Radiator Hose Sensor Adapter 28mm to 40mm
Note this pack is only compatible with the JRP 14in1 v2.6 screens, if you have a v2.5 or v2.0 base pack, this addon will not work on those screens. It is possible for customers of v2.5 or even v2.0 base packs to buy a new v2.6 screen, and then be able to use these new v2.6 screens along with this addon pack with those base packs, and while we don’t overly recommend this, because there could be some minor glitches, if you really don’t want to upgrade the whole system, it is possible to run a v2.6 screen on a v2.5 or v2.0 base pack control unit. This will allow owners of v2.5 & v2.0 base packs to upgrade their screens and be able to add the low coolant alarm & sensor to their existing setups without having to buy and install a whole new system.
If a vehicle's radiator system rapidly loses engine coolant due to a sudden event like a rock hitting the radiator or a radiator hose bursting, several potential consequences could lead to major engine damage:
Low Coolant Level Sensor & Alarm Benefits
- Rapid Overheating: With a significant loss of coolant, the engine loses its primary means of heat dissipation. This can cause the engine temperature to rise very quickly.
- Thermal Stress: Rapid temperature changes can cause thermal stress on engine components. This stress can lead to warping or cracking of the cylinder head and engine block.
- Blown Head Gasket: Overheating can cause the head gasket to fail. A blown head gasket can lead to a loss of compression, mixing of coolant and oil, and further overheating.
- Seized Engine: Without sufficient coolant, the engine can overheat to the point where the metal parts expand excessively and seize, stopping the engine from running entirely. This can cause permanent damage to pistons, cylinders, and other moving parts.
- Cracked Engine Block: Extreme overheating can cause the engine block to crack. This type of damage is usually catastrophic and often requires engine replacement.
- Damage to Peripheral Components: Overheating can also damage other components like the water pump, radiator, and hoses. These components may fail due to the excessive heat, leading to further coolant loss and potential damage.
- Increased Wear: Lack of proper cooling can increase wear on the engine’s internal components, leading to reduced engine life and performance issues.
In summary, a rapid loss of coolant can lead to overheating and extensive damage to various engine components, potentially resulting in major engine failure and requiring significant repairs or even a complete engine rebuild. It is critical to be alerted to this condition as quickly as possible to prevent severe engine damage and high costs involved with repairs to the damage which could occur.
The JRP Head Guard addon package for the 14in1 v2.6 systems can help you add an even higher level of protection for your engine at minimal cost, this will be one of the best investments for peace of mind you could purchase for your engine. Along with all the other aspects of the 14in1 systems which keep a close eye on your engine, the Head Guard addon pack takes it to another level, so you can just do what we all want, drive and not worry, let the 14in1 do the worrying for you.
