Our JRP 14in1 v2.6 multi gauges have landed, and we have created three different addon packs to expand the functionality of these latest all-in-one automotive gauge solutions. If customers want to take their engine protection to another level, then one of these three packs might be for you. And with that we are proud to introduce this addon pack which we call Head Guard Ultra. This kit takes monitoring and protecting your engines coolant system to a whole new level, it comes with a low coolant sensor & alarm, plus it also comes with a water pressure sensor, which will monitor your engines pressure in the radiator system and if it ever increases beyond normal operating parameters, it will sound a configurable high pressure alarm. This combination of both low coolant level detection and water pressure monitoring is going to provide customers with the ultimate level of protection on how your cooling system is performing, well beyond anything a factory set of gauges can do, or even other aftermarket automotive gauges will either.

If you are looking for the ultimate protection of your engine, with metrics few if any other gauges do on the market today, this Head Guard Ultra addon pack for our 14in1 systems is going to be something worth considering. And we have a ton of information below that explains what this addon pack is all about, and why it might be the right fit for you and your vehicle. We have put a lot of thought into this pack and think it’s going to be adopted by many vehicle owners who use our 14in1 systems to protect and monitor their vehicles vitals. Low Coolant Level IconLow Coolant Level Alarm & Sensor

So first up, we are going to talk about the benefits of the included low coolant alarm & sensor and what that means to customers and what benefits it provides. This little addon packs is going to be welcomed with open arms by the 4x4 community, as when driving offroad, there are plenty of scenarios which damage to the radiator system could occur, which if it does, leads to either a slow leak, to a sudden total loss of coolant, and either of these if not caught in time could cause some potentially serious and costly damage to the engine. But this addon isn’t just for the 4WD guys either, if you have a performance petrol street or track car, the same deal applies, if you lose all your coolant, you will be in a world of trouble. Most vehicles do not monitor for a low coolant, and so there is no alarm or warning is available to let you know you have lost all your coolant, the only alarm people have is watching steam pour out of the engine bay after the engine has cooked itself, not ideal right. So, even if you have a petrol engine, you could have a simple situation occur where a radiator hose has popped off, that’s enough to get you into a world of trouble really fast, and with this little low coolant level sensor & alarm addon for the 14in1, you have peace of mind that we are not only keeping an eye on your other vitals such as water temp, egt, trans temp, boost etc, this all-in-one automotive gauge system along with this addon pack is also going to alert you within seconds if you have had any kind of loss in coolant levels.

There are other low coolant level detection systems on the market which only do this function alone, and those range in price from anywhere from $175 to $250 just for this feature alone, they do nothing else. We have managed to integrate this into our 14in1 systems, and at a cost much lower than buying a standalone system, because at the end of the day, our gauges are already almost like a little computer system, the cost for us to implement this didn’t require separate hardware apart from the sensor, cable and some R&D along with some changes to our PCB design to incorporate these new sensors & alarms, so we are able to offer this addon pack at an amazing price, saving our customers wallets once again, and giving them peace of mind having one little gauge system handle pretty much everything for them.

JRP 14in1 v2.6 Head Guard Ultra Logo - Water Pressure - Low Coolant

The next feature which makes up this the Head Guard Ultra addon pack is, a Water Pressure sensor, and what this sensor does is monitor the pressure in your radiator system. Not only will you be able to see a water pressure readout on the screen itself if you so wish, but the system will monitor for a high pressure situation and has a configurable alarm you can setup for a high water pressure situation.

Engine Water Pressure IconWater Pressure Sensor & High Alarm

Most radiator systems will run at between 15 to 20 psi of pressure, and they will never deviate much from this pressure once at full operating temps, the only reason for them to raise above these levels is if because something has gone wrong. Such as a minor head gasket leak, or total failure, a stuck thermostat, faulty radiator cap as good examples. What having this water pressure sensor installed into your radiator system does is, helps you keep a careful eye on potential issues that could arise that could cause major engine damage, that may not be detectable from just water temp or low coolant alarms alone. The 14in1 gauge systems using the head guard ultra addon pack with a water pressure sensor installed is always looking out for a high water pressure situation, and if it’s seen, the gauge will sound and alarm right away. Why this could be an engine saver is, because if you catch a blown or leaking head gasket, or stuck thermostat before the engine boils its water, you could prevent warping the head, which if occurs could then require the head to be replaced and cost thousands of dollars.

One thing to note is that, for Water Pressure to be used on the 14in1, this does mean you will sacrifice the Fuel Pressure readout on the system, so please keep that in mind when ordering this addon pack, it’s not possible to have Fuel Pressure & Water Pressure display on the system together, you will need to choose, so if you want Fuel Pressure and it’s a must, maybe check the standard Head Guard addon to add low coolant level alarm only, but if you didn’t plan on using the Fuel Pressure readout on the system anyway, and you want the ultimate in monitoring of your engines coolant systems for potential issues, then you have the option to run the Head Guard Ultra addon pack.

Our water pressure sensors can read from 0psi right up to 145psi, and while that is well beyond levels most people will require, there are always customers out there which require something a little more out of the box than the standard readout of 0-35psi. Some people may want to repropose this sensor for suspension pressure, or airbag pressure as just a couple of examples, so that extended PSI readout range allows customers to not only use these for their intended purpose of water pressure, but because of their expanded PSI readability range, they could be repurposed for other high pressure situations that may need to be monitored. Be it for water, air, liquids, exhaust back pressure, these little sensors can handle more than just water pressure if the customer so wishes.

JRP 3-Port Radiator Hose Sensor Adapter

Now some of you might be going great, we have three sensors to install into our radiator systems, how do we go about that easily. Well, we of course have thought of that for you, and we are proud to also introduce our JRP 3-port radiator hose sensor adapter which can allow for up to 3 sensors to be installed into the single adapter. These are sold separately, and at an extremely reasonable price considering we engineered these in house, and there was R&D involved, but again we have kept prices decent for the quality and time spent with the development of these high quality adapters. We have a range of sizes available that should fit all vehicles, from 28mm right up to 40mm, this is going to cover the vast majority of engines people would want to use them with.

So, when using our 3-port radiator hose adapter, you can install both the Low Coolant Sensor & Water Pressure Sensor along with your Water Temp Sensor as well, all into the same location in your radiator system, and there is no need to work out where you might have to fit the sensors individually. You can have all three of these important sensors for Head Guard Ultra installed into a single adapter with ease. We have a link below you can click to take you to the section of our website where all sizes are listed.

This is the Head Guard addon pack for the JRP 14in1 multi gauge v2.6, note this pack is only compatible with the JRP 14in1 v2.6 complete systems. The reason for this is because the v2.6 control unit has been modified to be able to be able to accept a Water Pressure sensor, if you are only really wanting the Low Coolant Sensor and the owner of a v2.5 or v2.0 base pack, take a look at the Head Guard addon pack, as this can work with older versions of the 14in1 systems, but the Head Guard Ultra addon pack, this is only compatible with the latest v2.6 control unit found in the latest base pack, along with the latest v2.6 screen itself. So, for this addon pack, you need to have a v2.6 screen, along with a v2.6 base pack as well. Any questions around this for owners of older systems, give our friendly tech guys a call or message, they will be only to happy to help.

If a vehicle's radiator system rapidly loses engine coolant due to a sudden event like a rock hitting the radiator or a radiator hose bursting, several potential consequences could lead to major engine damage:

Low Coolant Sensor & Alarm Benefits

  1. Rapid Overheating: With a significant loss of coolant, the engine loses its primary means of heat dissipation. This can cause the engine temperature to rise very quickly.
  1. Thermal Stress: Rapid temperature changes can cause thermal stress on engine components. This stress can lead to warping or cracking of the cylinder head and engine block.
  1. Blown Head Gasket: Overheating can cause the head gasket to fail. A blown head gasket can lead to a loss of compression, mixing of coolant and oil, and further overheating.
  1. Seized Engine: Without sufficient coolant, the engine can overheat to the point where the metal parts expand excessively and seize, stopping the engine from running entirely. This can cause permanent damage to pistons, cylinders, and other moving parts.
  1. Cracked Engine Block: Extreme overheating can cause the engine block to crack. This type of damage is usually catastrophic and often requires engine replacement.
  1. Damage to Peripheral Components: Overheating can also damage other components like the water pump, radiator, and hoses. These components may fail due to the excessive heat, leading to further coolant loss and potential damage.
  1. Increased Wear: Lack of proper cooling can increase wear on the engine’s internal components, leading to reduced engine life and performance issues.

In summary, a rapid loss of coolant can lead to overheating and extensive damage to various engine components, potentially resulting in major engine failure and requiring significant repairs or even a complete engine rebuild. It is critical to be alerted to this condition as quickly as possible to prevent severe engine damage and high costs involved with repairs to the damage which could occur.

Water Pressure Reading & Alarm Benefits

Monitoring water pressure in an engine's cooling system can provide valuable insights and early warnings of potential issues. Here are some reasons why it's beneficial, along with examples of scenarios that could cause a rise in water pressure:

Reasons to Monitor Water Pressure:

  1. Early Detection of Cooling System Issues:
    • Example: A sudden rise in water pressure could indicate a developing problem with the cooling system, allowing for early intervention before severe damage occurs.

  2. Prevention of Engine Overheating:
    • Example: High water pressure might suggest a blockage or malfunction in the cooling system, such as a stuck thermostat, which could lead to overheating if not addressed promptly.

  3. Detection of Head Gasket Failure:
    • Example: A blown head gasket can cause combustion gases to enter the cooling system, increasing water pressure. Identifying this early can prevent further engine damage.

  4. Identifying Thermostat Issues:
    • Example: A stuck closed thermostat will prevent coolant from circulating properly, leading to increased water pressure and potentially causing engine overheating.

  5. Coolant Leak Detection:
    • Example: A loss of coolant pressure might indicate a leak in the system, such as a cracked radiator, damaged hoses, or a faulty radiator cap.

Possible Scenarios Leading to Increased Water Pressure:

  1. Stuck Thermostat:
    • Scenario: If the thermostat remains closed, coolant cannot circulate through the radiator, causing pressure to build up within the engine. This can lead to overheating and potential engine damage.

  2. Blown Head Gasket:
    • Scenario: Combustion gases can leak into the cooling system, raising the pressure. This not only increases the risk of overheating but can also lead to coolant contamination with oil or exhaust gases.

  3. Radiator or Hose Blockages:
    • Scenario: A blockage in the radiator or hoses can restrict coolant flow, causing pressure to increase. This can be due to debris, sediment buildup, or collapsed hoses.

  4. Faulty Water Pump:
    • Scenario: A malfunctioning water pump might fail to circulate coolant effectively, leading to localized pressure increases and uneven cooling throughout the engine.

  5. Radiator Cap Failure:
    • Scenario: The radiator cap is designed to maintain a specific pressure in the cooling system. If the cap fails, it can either cause pressure to build up excessively or fail to maintain adequate pressure, leading to overheating.

  6. Coolant Boiling:
    • Scenario: If the engine temperature gets too high, the coolant can start to boil, creating steam and increasing pressure. This can happen due to a failing cooling system component or extreme engine load.

  7. Leaking Cylinder Head or Block:
    • Scenario: Cracks in the cylinder head or engine block can allow high-pressure combustion gases to enter the cooling system, raising pressure and potentially causing overheating and coolant loss.

Customer Benefits:

  • Early Warning System: Customers can be alerted to potential problems before they cause significant damage, allowing for timely maintenance and repair.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Monitoring water pressure can help in scheduling preventive maintenance, reducing the risk of breakdowns and costly repairs.

  • Enhanced Engine Life: By detecting issues early, customers can avoid severe engine damage, extending the life of their engine.

  • Improved Safety: Preventing engine overheating and failure enhances vehicle safety, particularly during long trips or in extreme conditions.

In summary, monitoring water pressure provides a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues in the cooling system, ensuring better performance, reliability, and safety for the engine.
